During the popular protests in January 2021, Abderrahman from the Ettadhamen District, Tunis, was arrested by plainclothes police officers and taken to the police station to be later presented before the investigating judge. He was falsely charged with charges related to public offenses such as theft from a store and property damage. As of today, Abderrahman has been in detention for over three months without a scheduled court session. Abderrahman’s Lawyer, Attorney Hayat Jazzar, reported that the fourth investigating judge at the Ariana Court of First Instance is delaying the examination of Abderrahman’s case and evading responsibility. She has only been able to meet with him on a few occasions, which led her to call on civil society to exert pressure, organize protests, and demand the release of Abderrahman to enable him to return to his studies and prepare for baccalaureate exams.
