Meriem Bribri

On December 21, 2021, the Sfax Court of First Instance sentenced human rights activist Meriem Bribri to four months in prison and a fine of 500 Tunisian dinars. The ruling followed the publication of a video and accompanying Facebook post in which she criticized the behavior of a police officer toward a citizen.

Following the publication, security unions in Sfax filed a complaint against her, accusing her of defaming the honor and reputation of the security forces, insulting others through social media, and undermining a public official.

The case was examined by the criminal chamber of the Sfax Court of First Instance, which ultimately issued the sentence of four months’ imprisonment and a 500-dinar fine.
