Kais Nsiri

Kais Nsiri a secondary school teacher in Sbeitla, was arrested on 23 September by the judicial police in Sbeitla. His arrest followed Facebook posts he had shared on his personal page, for which he was accused of insulting the President of the Republic.

After being brought before the Public Prosecutor, he was placed in custody and subsequently referred to the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Unit in Tunis, as the charges against him were reportedly reclassified as having a terrorist nature, according to his lawyer. Kais Nsiri remained in custody for five days before the Public Prosecutor decided to extend his detention for an additional five days in order to complete the investigation and await the results of technical examinations.

His lawyer also indicated that his arrest was accompanied by the arrest of a friend in the governorate of Nabeul, based on a conversation discovered on Kais’s phone dating back to 2021.

He was later referred to the Criminal Chamber in Kasserine, and a hearing was scheduled for 8 January 2025 before the Court of First Instance in Kasserine.
