
Human rights defender and president of the “Children of the Moon” Association in Medenine, Abdallah Said, was detained on November 12, 2024. The case was referred to the Public Prosecutor at the Medenine First Instance Court, who claimed there were terrorist suspicions, and subsequently forwarded the file to the Judicial Pole for Counter-Terrorism.
On November 17, 2024, Abdullah Saïd was referred to the Judicial Pole for Counter-Terrorism, which returned the case on November 26, 2024, to the Public Prosecutor at the Medenine First Instance Court, citing the absence of any terrorist suspicion.
Following this, the Public Prosecutor authorized the opening of an investigative inquiry for crimes including money laundering, embezzlement, and assault on external state security. A detention warrant was issued against Abdallah Said, while the other members of the association were released pending trial.
The victim protests from inside prison regarding his health condition, due to being denied access to medication, and what he considers procedural delays in his case. His salary has also been cut, leaving his family in a precarious financial situation, especially given his detention. Additionally, the association’s headquarters were searched and some documents seized after his arrest.
His detention has lasted 463 days to date, and he remains in custody. A hearing was scheduled on February 3, 2026, at the Medenine First Instance Court, which refused his release and postponed the case to April 21, 2026.
