Rabie Chihaoui was a young Tunisian man living in the Hay Hlel neighborhood in Tunis. He was arrested by the police following a dispute with a neighbor who filed a complaint against him. After his arrest, Rabii was taken to a detention center, where he spent Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. He was then transferred to Mornaguia Civil Prison on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Rabie’s sister stated that when she visited him at the detention center, he was in good health and showed no visible signs of violence. She maintained that the violence and beatings that led to his death occurred inside Mornaguia Prison.

Several photos circulated after his death showing scars, bruises, and severe signs of physical violence on different parts of his body. His sister affirmed that these injuries were the main cause of his death, stating in a radio interview that Rabie had not suffered from any serious illness and had entered prison in good health.
