Hamza Labidi

Hamza Labidi is a young man from the Kasserine region, a civil activist, former student activist, on January 4, 2023, Hamza was arrested and referred to the judiciary on charges of using information and communication networks and systems to produce, promote, publish, send, or prepare false news, data, or rumors, under Article 24 of Decree-Law No. 54 of 2022, dated September 13, 2022, concerning cybercrime. He was brought before the court on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

The charges stemmed from a Facebook post he published on his personal page containing the slogan: “To the revolution, back to the streets the revolution continues,” expressing protest and condemnation of the situation in the Kasserine region.

Moreover, the content of Hamza’s post does not constitute false news or rumors warranting imprisonment or prosecution, but rather falls within the scope of his right to freedom of expression.

After his arrest on January 4, 2023, he was brought before the court the following day, January 5, 2023, to examine the charges against him and the judge ordered the dismissal of the charges against Hamza Labidi and his release.
