The late Ramzi Briki was placed in pre-trial detention and committed to Mahdia Civil Prison in October 2023. He went on a hunger strike that began on Friday 22 December 2023, which led to his death on Sunday 24 December 2023 at 8:55 p.m.; his brother had visited him on Thursday 21 December 2023 and confirmed that he was in good health”.
The administration of Mahdia Civil Prison was aware that the victim suffered from diabetes and needed insulin doses and constant medical follow-up.
