Dhia Hamdi is a Tunisian student who was arrested in the early hours of 21 September 2024 in the governorate of Sfax. His arrest was reportedly linked to his activism in support of the Palestinian cause and for writing the slogan \u201cBoycott, Do Not Fund Genocide\u201d on advertising billboards.<\/p>\n

He was taken to a police station, where he was interrogated without the presence of a lawyer, according to his testimony. He reported being questioned mainly about his activism and subjected to pressure during the interrogation. His personal phone was searched and confiscated for technical examination, and his room was also reportedly searched.<\/p>\n

Following the forensic examination of his phone, authorities summoned him again on 16 October 2025 after allegedly finding a screenshot of a mural created by the imprisoned artist Rachad Tamboura. The questioning reportedly focused on why the image was stored on his phone.<\/p>\n

He was charged under Article 67 of the Tunisian Penal Code for allegedly committing an offensive act against the President of the Republic, an offense punishable by up to three years in prison and\/or a fine.<\/p>\n

Dhia Hamdi remained at liberty pending trial, with a hearing scheduled before the Court of First Instance of Bab Bhar in Sfax on 31 October 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
